Her Birth Story.
With Lucas I was a week late and he was huge, almost 9 lbs. I really didn't want to go over my due date again, and my midwife was so understanding and said she would start me a little early. Nate had to work the weekend and since it was Memorial Day there was no way his boss was letting him off, so we planned on getting started on Tuesday the 31st. I knew it was going to be the longest weekend ever, I felt like crap and Nate worked EVERY day. I was not looking forward to it. I told Nate I was going to try and go into labor just to make his boss mad for not letting me get started before the weekend!
Well Sunday morning came and I was getting Lucas and me ready for church. I was so tired and kept texting Nate that I couldn't do it, and that I just wanted to cry and I was going crazy. I just wanted him to come home so bad but he said it was crazy busy, busier than he had seen in a long time so there was no way. Great!
We got ready for church and headed over. Nate's mom is living with us right now so luckily she was there during sacrament to help take care of Lucas so at least I got listen to the speakers.
Well once we sat down in Sacrament I started getting contractions. I had been having Braxton Hicks ones for a while, but these hurt a little worse. After about 15 minutes I decided to time them. So as I'm trying to listen to the speaker and keep Lucas entertained I have my phone out timing the contractions. They were pretty consistent at like 7 minutes apart. They weren't super painful just uncomfortable and annoying. I didn't really experience many contractions with Lucas so I had nothing to compare it too!
Well after sacrament I just wanted to go home, and of course the whole world wanted to talk and ask when I was due etc. Finally we got out of there and I told Sherlyn that I thought I was having contractions. She said to go in and lay down and she would take care of Luke for me.
I had text Nate a few times during sacrament what I was feeling and I decided to give him a call.
He sounded so stressed! Work was so crazy and he had no idea how to get out of it. I decided to just try and sleep to see what would happen. After like a 1/2 hour it wasn't getting any better so I called Nate again. He said if I really thought it was something real I needed to know by noon, which was in like 15 minutes, so they could possibly call someone in to cover for him. If I didn't then he was stuck there until 6. We finally decided to just have him come home and hope someone could cover. I'm sure all his fellow employees were hating me! I called my midwife and she said to take a bath and see if that stops them. I was in the bath when Nate got home and they did not slow down at all. We called my midwife back and she said just to run up to the hospital to get checked.
I didn't even have a bag ready, so Nate started throwing stuff together and I got dressed and ready. The whole time I'm thinking that I'm going to get there and they are going to take one look at me and send me home! My worst fear! Of course Nate thought I was crazy.
So we get to the hospital and get all hooked up to the machines and the contractions start getting a little more painful, which made me feel better! The nurse said I was a 4 and 85% effaced and my contractions were pretty strong and regular. They said they were going to admit me and I couldn't have been happier! I couldn't believe that this was real. I totally was in labor and having her that day!
I was strep B positive so I had to be on antibiotics for at least 4 hours before delivery so they got me all hooked up on that and put into my room around 4 pm. The contractions started to get pretty bad so about an hour later I decided to go for the epidural, I'm a wuss. Once we got that in we just chilled, watched a movie, talked, kind of just relaxed. They checked me at about 5:45 and I was at a 6. Not too shabby! I was starting to be able to feel the contractions really bad even with the epidural at about 6:50, so the anisthesiologist came in and gave me another dose to make me feel more comfortable. Well that dose totally just numbed me right up. I couldn't feel a dang thing! My family and Nate's mom came and we chatted with them. Karen my midwife was going to come at 8 to break my water once all the antibiotics were in my system so around 7:30 the nurse decided to check me just to let Karen know how things were going. Well she went to check and was a little shocked. My bag of water (sorry if this is too much info!) was just hanging out but not broken. Pretty much she said if I sneezed this baby would probably come right out! What the heck!
They really wanted me to wait until 8 so they paged Karen and told me to just relax the best I could. Karen got there at 7:50 got all gowned up and ready and right at 8 they had me push. 2 pushes later and she was here, just like that. It went so fast I was pretty shocked!
When they told me her weight I was shocked, no wonder she came out so easy. I thought for sure she would be bigger. She had been measuring way bigger than that!
She had pooped before birth so they had to take her away pretty quick to get her all suctioned out and to make sure she didn't inhale any of it so I was kind of bummed to not hold her very long right after birth, but at least nothing was wrong.
So far she has been a great baby. Still really sleepy, and very content.
Lucas seems to be adjusting pretty well. He was pretty excited at the hospital and loved holding her. He asks to hold her and always says how cute she is. He loves to give her kisses too. Other than that he just goes about his own business, asking questions every once in a while about what I'm doing. Nate decided to take paternity leave so he is home for 2 weeks. It has been nice having someone to play with Lucas for me so I can get into the swing of things.
Here are some pics from the hospital.

This picture makes me laugh. When they were giving her a bath they put her under the lights and she got really calm and content. It must have felt soooo good.

Finally getting to snuggle her!

Big Brother loves his new sister! He still thinks it's funny to call her Bullseye. He even told the nurse that was her name!
