About two weeks ago my grandfather, Papa Ray, passed away.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimers about a year ago and then just in July we found out he had pancreatic and liver cancer. He went really quickly and without any pain which was a huge blessing.
He was such an amazing person and it makes me sad to not have him around anymore to tell all of his great stories. He lived to be 86 and had so many neat experiences in his life. He lived in California most of my younger years but moved to Utah to be closer to us when I was in junior high. I'm so grateful for the last 13 years that I had to become closer to him.
We had a little funeral here in Utah for all the friends that he has met here during the past few years. My dad was so sweet and bought all of us tickets to California to attend the burial service there. He is buried in the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen. It is in Newport Beach and has spectacular views of the ocean.

The day of the burial was absolutely beautiful. It couldn't have been more perfect.
Papa served in WWII as a bomber in a B-17 plane. They had a full military honor for him which was really cool.

It was such a good weekend, I was able to see all my family from California that I don't get to see very often. Papa was such a great grandpa. He was always there to support me in everything. He helped me pay for my schooling. He was so giving and loving to everyone. He made friends wherever he went. Lucas was his only great grandchild and he loved him so much. It is so comforting to know that he is in a better place, surrounded by loved ones, and that we will see him again. We love you Papa Ray!

You would think I was prego with the way I just teared up reading your post. Geesh! I am glad you got to go to the service and that we have the knowledge to know he is in such a wonderful place.

I remember eating so many good dinners with Papa Ray. I remember his smile, he always smiled. He was full of happiness and friendship. I'm glad he is no longer suffering.

Even when it's expected, it doesn't make it any easier. What a neat thing to experience with the military honors. He sounds like an amazing man!
