Lucas's story

I can't believe the he is finally here! It is still so surreal. We love having him home though. He is so cute! People have been wanting to hear his story so here it is!
I was 4 days past due and just really ready to have this kid so when we went to the doctor on Tuesday I was pretty much just going to tell the doc that I wanted to get started. When there was no change since my last appointment she agreed and called and got it all set up. I was 6th in line for the next day. They said to call them in the morning and they would give us a time, probably in the afternoon. Surprisingly to us we got a call at 7 am the next morning telling us to be there in an hour and a half! Nate freaked out since he had stayed up until 2 the night before! Nice. So I got up showered and got ready for the day just to calm my nerves a little bit. Really inside I was completely freaked out. We headed up to the hospital, feeling completely fine! I walked myself in, checked in, and we were on our way! Once the contractions started they really weren't too bad, I could handle them, but since I had been started I had to stay hooked up to the monitor the whole time which meant to walking around or anything which really would have felt good. After about 4 bigger contractions that were bearable but not pleasant the nurse asked if I wanted an epidural. It felt kind of early (I was only at a 4) but since I really couldn't move around I decided why not lay there and be a little more comfortable rather than lay there in pain all day so I copped out and got one! Man epidurals are great! The rest of the time was actually pleasant! We just talked with my family and Nates and took a rest, no big deal.
I actually progressed pretty fast and really started to feel pressure around 3. At 4 I was ready to go but they made me rest and descend for an hour (I guess that is a normal thing for first time moms). It wasn't really painful by now but just always a lot of pressure. When they finally made let me push it was awesome! I pushed for about an hour and they made me stop because my doctor wasn't there yet and that was torture! Even with the epidural it hurt like crazy. I was about ready to kill my doc for not being there. Finally after like twenty minutes she ran in with her motorcycle helmet under her arm, through on her gown and I started pushing. About five pushes later he as here! May it felt good to have him out. The cord was wrapped around his body and legs pretty tight which kind of freaked the doctor out, but he was fine!
So that is pretty much it! About 8 hours of labor, 1 1/2 of pushing and I have the most beautiful baby in the world here! His head was a little misshapen at first but it only took a day and it went back to normal. So here is a ton of pictures that we have taken of him so far!

Welcome little Lucas!

What a cute little guy! He is so perfect!

Nate just chillin in the hospital trying to catch up on his sleep.

Look at our cute little family! I love it!

Me and my awesome midwife!

Mya loves Lucas. When we first brought him home she was so curious and almost a little scared of him! She sniffed him all over and gave him some kisses and now is pretty overprotective of him. Wherever he is Mya has to be right there. She loves to just sit and look at him. It is the cutest thing ever. I think they will be best buddies!

Congrats you guys! He's such a cutie. I cant tell if he looks like daddy or mommy yet, I guess I will have to give that a couple of wks to decide. Glad everything went well. Good for you for not waiting for the heavenly shot, I did the same thing and it made Austin's birth so much more enjoyable. Hope all is well, give me a call if you need any adult conversation in the next lil' while.

Yeah for baby Lucas! I have said it before and I will say it again and again...he is so beautiful! I can't wait to see the lil' guy in person. I am glad everything went well with the labor and you are both doing fine.

I had to stop pushing and wait for my doc too right when Anna was crowning. I actually did yell at her 'You can't make me stop now. It actually feels good to push!' haha. Giving birth made me realise that those dang nurses do everything - mine were fantastic - and the doc is hardly there. Nurses need to get paid more.

Ah, to have to stop pushing! I'm so sorry! They actually hadn't checked me for a while and when the nurse came in, I asked if I should be feeling pressure, and she said oh no I forgot to tell you to tell me when you do...ha...so she checked and I was at a 10...luckily my doctor had just finished delivering another baby...man I do not envy their jobs....call me if you need anything!! Mya will be protective!! How fun for them to be buddies!
